19th-century Impressionist Paintings - Near Monticelli - Scene In A Park With Two Elegant Women

Artist: Monticelli & Entourage ?
A beautiful Impressionist painting from the late 19th century or around 1900 depicting a charming scene in a park with two elegantly dressed women chatting near a flower-filled basin... This painting is unsigned and has never been examined by an expert, but anyone would recognize the very distinctive style of the famous from MarseilleAdolphe Monticelli (1824–1886): although there is much controversy surrounding the authentication of his paintings, he is considered one of the precursors of Impressionism... he specialized in park scenes, often featuring figures gathered in an atmosphere reminiscent of Venetian festivals...
Note: one of the appeals of the work presented here is that it fairly faithfully adheres to Monticelli’s technique: indeed, he made use of the natural color of the wood panel (walnut or mahogany) to create contrasts, thus leaving parts of the panel “en réserve,” that is, unpainted: See photo details, as this is indeed the case here...
- Note that the painter Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) had a deep admiration for Monticelli, particularly for his use of color and his technique of applying paint in thick, generous strokes...
