Large and beautiful canvas dated 1882 depicting a pleasant wooded landscape with two young women draped in classical style, seated by a river... The painting is signed lower left "A. Durand 1882" (detail shown in the photograph). Several artists are listed in the Bénézit dictionary with this name, but by process of elimination based on style (19th-century French school) and period, it appears to be the painter Albert Durand de La Béduaudière (1856-1943): he is listed in the Bénézit under the name "Albert Durand," and Wikipedia offers a more detailed biography. He exhibited regularly until the end of the 19th century in Parisian salons and at the 1895 Universal Exhibition... Note: one of the appealing aspects of this work is the pleasant atmosphere of tranquility it evokes, somewhat reminiscent of...
