Large 19th-century Canvas - Pont-aven School - The Three Breton Women Returning From The Sea
Artist: école De Pont-aven
A large, luminous painting from the early 1900s depicting three Breton women sitting on the beach mending a fishing net....The painting is unsigned, but a quick online search reveals that this subject appears in a work by the painter Maximilienne Guyon (1868–1903) titled “The Net Menders of Brittany " / see last photo.
Note: one of the attractions of the painting presented here is that it is executed in different, less classical tones—ultimately closer to the style characteristic of the Pont-Aven School...Indeed, here and there we see the colorism of ÉmileBernard, Paul Sérusier, and Henry Moret, to name only the most famous...
- a few snags (small tears in the canvas) that are fairly minor and can be repaired by a professional or even someone who is somewhat skilled with their hands -
Canvas size: 131 cm x 101 cm -
