A large and beautiful Orientalist watercolor depicting a vast and luminous landscape of the Maghreb, likely located in Algeria or Morocco... .The work is signed in the lower right corner by Henri Clamens(1905–1937), an outstanding painter listed in the Bénézit, whose biography can be found on Wikipedia: a native in Nîmes, he was poised for a bright artistic future, but in 1937 he died prematurely at the age of 32...Henri Clamens had won a silver medal at the 1926 Salon des Artistes Français, and became a resident of the prestigious Villa Abd-el-Tif in Algiers, winning the prize there in 1930. Note: Henri Clamens died at the Esaldes Sanatorium in 1937... His paintings and gouaches were painted primarily in Algeria and Morocco ...the French art historian Jean Alazard said of him: “ Henri Clamens’s all-too-brief life is an example that deserves our reflection. It was filled with a love of painting and ennobled by a sense of the Divine”
