Large 19th Century Impressionist Canvas - Women At The Fountain - Something Of Gauguin - Signed?
Large and beautiful Impressionist canvas from the late 19th or early 20th century, depicting two young women carrying water near a fountain, typically Mediterranean... The painting is signed in the lower right corner, but the signature is difficult to interpret as it is faded / see detail in photo 15: it seems to read: H.R......apol. Note: this painting has never been examined by an expert, but its high quality warrants further investigation to try to identify its author. The chromaticism and flat areas of color are reminiscent of Paul Gauguin's style during his Breton period, as if the artist had applied the pictorial theories of Cloisonnism from the Pont-Aven school, although the atmosphere of this work seems rather southern / a heads-up for those interested in research. - Old restorations visible on the reverse - Canvas size: 81 cm x 65 cm - Ask me for other photos if needed.
