"19th-20th Century Bronze Sculpture - Hindu Worship Of The Khmer People Of Cambodia - The God Vishnu"
An interesting bronze sculpture dating from the 19th or 20th century, representing the god Vishnu, who, along with Brahma and Shiva, forms the trinity of the principal deities of Hinduism. Hinduism is one of the oldest religions in the world, with over a billion followers, and is practiced primarily in Asia, notably in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Indonesia, but also in some Southeast Asian countries, as well as in Africa and the Caribbean. Note: generally, the headdress of the deity helps identify the country of origin, and unless I'm mistaken, the sculpture offered here appears to be from Cambodia. A green patina, quite characteristic of old bronze, is visible here and there, as well as an earthy, ochre-colored (very dry) substance covering part of the sculpture. It should be noted that this sculpture has never been examined by an expert, and determining its exact origin and date remains complex.
