Luigi Brignoli 1881-1952...two Large Portraits Of A Bourgeois Couple In 1937
Artist: Luigi Brignoli (1881-1952)
Large and beautiful paintings dated 1937 depicting portraits of a well-to-do, elegantly dressed bourgeois couple. The works are signed by the Italian painter Luigi Brignoli (1881-1952), an excellent artist whose biography can be found on Wikipedia: Luigi Brignoli first studied at the Carrara Academy in Bergamo, then for two years at the Brera Academy in Milan. He also participated in numerous exhibitions, notably the Venice International Art Exhibition in 1907 and 1926. An artist appreciated for his landscapes, he also enjoyed great renown as a portraitist. In 1926, he exhibited at the Galleria Pesaro in Milan, and later succeeded his teacher as director of the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo. Note: the two portraits offered here are interesting because they reflect quite well the atmosphere of the 1930s. These paintings also attest to the artist's talent as a portraitist: note that they are countersigned on the reverse, with the names of the people depicted, but the spelling is uncertain...it is likely the engineer Carlo Fedier or Zedier? and his wife Agnese, with the inscription "Le Vésinet" 24 Oct 1937 Piazza Argentina 6 Milano.
