"Great 19th Century Impressionist...walnut Picking In Isère...h. Baudon"
Large impressionist canvas from the end of the 19th century or the beginning of 1900, which represents a pleasant animated scene in front of a large building, with a couple who are apparently picking up nuts ... in the background we can also see a mother carrying her child as well as 3 women in front of a wash house ... The work is signed lower right but the signature is only visible in raking light "H.Baudon" / see detail 13: It is clearly the work of an artist who was influenced by Corot and who certainly knows the first French works of Camille Pissarro ... note: this is the kind of painting that would deserve research because its author is perhaps an artist who died prematurely or fell into oblivion (like many at that time): the framer's stamp on the back designates the house "Fénoglio Frêres" active in Grenoble between 1904 & 1930. This could point to a painter from Isère, especially since this region has been known to be a major producer of walnuts since the 19th century... - ask me for other photos if necessary - Canvas size: 50 cm x 38 cm Frame (some missing parts): 63 cm x 52 cm
