"Austrian Neo-impressionist School "the Fierce Pepito Guarding The Beautiful House""
Austrian Neo-Impressionist School. Oil on canvas, "The Fierce Pepito Guarding the Beautiful House," signed and monogrammed lower right J. Koganowsky Kg. 80 x 100 cm. Austrian School. Jakob Koganowsky (1874-1926) was born in Brody (Galicia province, Austria-Hungary, now Ukraine) and died in Vienna, Austria. He was a student of Christian Griepenkerl (1839-1916) at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. Does our painting depict a villa in Sankt Agatha (on the left bank of the Danube in Austria, not far from the German border), a favorite holiday destination for the German bourgeoisie of the early 20th century, or perhaps one in another equally attractive Austrian town? A question for collectors! Jakob Koganowsky's talent rivals that of the Austrian Impressionist masters, such as Emil Jakob Schindler (1842-1892), Olga Wisinger-Florian (1844-1926), and Marie Egner (1850-1940), his contemporaries. Koganowsky's soft palette and skillfully structured drawing perfectly exemplify Austrian Impressionism. This "stimmungsimpressionismus," meaning mood or atmosphere, distinguishes it from the French Impressionism of Claude Monet (1840-1926), who focused on the scientific analysis of light and used pure colors. Koganowsky employs a more muted palette with colored grays, umbers, deep greens, and hazy blues. Beautiful painted wood frame with a modern gilt mat. Five small restorations on the right side of the painting. A stretcher mark on the canvas (crossbar) which, however, does not detract from the painting's clarity. 2500 euros.
