When Charles Le Brun (1619–1690) became First Painter to the King in 1664, his studio ceased to function as a traditional artist’s workshop and became a full-fledged enterprise where hundreds of artisans and artists worked to enhance the prestige of the state.
For nearly thirty years, Le Brun’s studio was a massive and unique production machine driven exclusively by the determination, energy, and organizational genius of the King’s First Painter.
It is reasonable to assume that the creation of our painting was part of a project directed by the great painter himself. Modern painted wooden moldings. Will require thorough cleaning. Good condition.
