Dutch School Circa 1600 "the Martyrdom Of Saint Sebastian"
Dutch school circa 1600. Oil on panel "The Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian" unsigned. 30.6 X 23.5 cm. Dutch school. Our painting is a classical representation of Saint Sebastian, an extremely popular subject in the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The Saint's pose, typical of Mannerist taste, the color palette, characteristic of the Nordic painters of the period, and the treatment of the landscape, particularly the foliage, reminiscent of the Flemish and Dutch tradition, are all evidence of the high quality of our painting. What's more, the great finesse applied to the painter's depiction of the perizonium is further proof, if any were needed, of the interest our painting will arouse in you.
