Neapolitan Wedding – Italian School, Early 19th Century

Fine oil on canvas depicting a Neapolitan wedding scene, in which the young couple receives the blessing of a religious dignitary, surrounded by their relatives within a classical architectural setting. The richness of the traditional costumes, the floral crowns worn by the bride and groom, and the solemn atmosphere give the composition the narrative charm typical of Italian Romantic painting.

Unsigned, this work reflects the early 19th-century taste for genre scenes inspired by the popular traditions of southern Italy. The composition is well balanced, the figures are finely characterised, and the colours are warm and harmonious.

Presented in an elegant giltwood frame. Overall good condition, with visible old restorations, some craquelure and light signs of age consistent with the period.
