"Roger Guy Charman 20th Century - Large Canvas - Biblical Scene Of The Nativity & The Adoration Of The Shepherds"
A large and beautiful painting dated 1971 depicting a luminous Nativity scene in a stable, with several figures symbolizing the Adoration of the Shepherds. The work is signed in the lower left corner "Charman 71" and countersigned on the reverse "Roger Guy Charman Bedoin 1971 November." Apparently, there is an illustrator with the same name who worked in the 1970s and 80s for major Parisian publishing houses such as Gallimard and Nathan. It is difficult at this stage to know for sure if it is the same artist. Any research is welcome. Note: aside from the question of identifying the artist, this is a rather exceptional work in its execution. Indeed, one senses both the generous style of Provençal painters, particularly the impasto and luminosity of the colors, and also the magical atmosphere of a Provençal nativity scene.
