The work is signed with the studio stamp "FM" which corresponds to the famous painter Frédéric Montenard (1847-1926) an excellent artist to whom the Bénézit dedicates an important chapter and whose biography can be read on whose biography can be read on the Wikipedia site: admitted to l'École des beaux-arts de Paris in the studio of Pierre Puvis de Chavannes, he made his debut at the Salon in 1872, exhibiting there regularly...In 1873, Frédéric Montenard founded l'atelier des beaux-arts de Toulon with painters Eugène-Baptiste Émile Dauphin, Gustave Garaud and Octave Gallian.
