Wooden Rosary With Crucifix And Silver Elements, 18th Century
Catholic rosary composed of small dark patinated wooden beads linked with silver mounts and finished with a cast silver crucifix. Christ is depicted with outstretched arms above a skull and crossed bones, a Golgotha symbol frequently found on early crucifixes. Above the main crucifix is a smaller silver connector cross. The rosary is further fitted with several devotional pendants, including a round religious medal, a small silver plaque and a cylindrical opening reliquary capsule intended to contain a relic or blessed material. A small enamel charm depicting a building, probably a pilgrimage souvenir, appears to be a later addition. The combination of wooden beads, silver elements and the Baroque crucifix style is consistent with Catholic European production of the 18th century.
