"Large 20th Century African Sculpture...the Nimba Goddess Of Fertility...the Baga Ethnic Group Of Guinea "
Monumental and spectacular African sculpture from the second half of the 20th century, representing a Nimba statue embodying the Goddess of fertility, according to the animist beliefs of the Baga people of Guinea. In African animist culture, these "Nimba" sculptures were carried by several men during solemn ceremonies: notably during weddings, initiation rites, but also for harvests, the funerals of dignitaries, and other important events generally decided by village chiefs. Note: this sculpture is particularly impressive due to the mysterious power it exudes, but also because of its exceptional size (153 cm) and weight (over 50 kg). Indeed, some auction houses indicate that Baga-Nimba sculptures can sometimes reach up to 70 kg, but a web search reveals no comparable examples, which gives the work offered here a certain originality and rarity. Size (approx.): 153 cm / Weight (approx.): over 50 kg. Delivery & shipping: Due to its oversized dimensions, standard shipping is not possible.
