"Louis Arraou 1900 - Large & Luminous Impressionist - Rocky Coast Of The Esterel"
Large & remarkable impressionist painting from the end of the 19th century, or around 1900, which represents a luminous seaside landscape in the south of France: this painting is titled on the reverse "Mistral in the Esterel" which designates the rocky coast which extends from the shores of the Mediterranean between the Var and the Alpes-Maritimes... The painting is signed by Louis Arraou (19th - 20th) an artist whose information can be found on the web and who seems to have been a painter & novelist: the various articles which evoke his career do not seem to agree on his date of birth, since some place his birth in 1862 or 1867 and others in 1919... as he is also the author of a science fiction novel published in 1932, it is more likely that he was born in the 19th century... note: on the technical level it is a painting made with a certain "mastery" as much in the rendering of the chromatism as in the generous serif of his colors...objectively it's great art! He's exactly the kind of artist to collect "without breaking the bank" because he is not mentioned in the Bénézit, which suggests that he may have fallen into oblivion (like many artists at that time) and that he may one day be rediscovered... - note a trace of old restoration on the reverse - Canvas size: 61 cm x 50 cm Frame: 75 cm x 65 cm - ask me for other photos if necessary -
