Large Classical Drawing, Early 19th Century - Italian Landscape Near Ronciglione - Workshop Of Jv Bertin

Large and beautiful classical drawing from the early 19th century, made in black chalk and white chalk, which represents a vast animated landscape in the Italian countryside, located in Ronciglione north of Rome...The work has an annotation in the lower right (on a rock) but the inscription is difficult to understand: it is difficult to know if it is a signature or a Latin phrase / see details photos 11 & 12 note: a quick search on the web makes it possible to identify a related painting which was made in 1808 by the famous landscape painter Jean-Victor Bertin (1767-1842) and kept in the museum of Nantes under the title "Environs de Ronciglione" / see last photo. Jean-Victor Bertin's Studio: It should be noted that photographs of this drawing were sent to a Parisian gallery (specializing in this painter) which suggested the possibility of a student from Bertin's studio. Indeed, some accounts attest that before moving on to painting, the master asked his students to make graphic replicas of his works. This is precisely the kind of work that would merit serious investigation, as Bertin's studio welcomed some rather prestigious students, most of whom became great landscape painters. Examples include Jean-Baptiste Corot, Léon Fleury, Jean-Charles-Joseph Rémond, Jules Coignet, Achille Etna Michallon, and Charles François Daubigny, to name only the most famous... a complete list can be found on Wikipedia – a heads-up for those interested in research.
