Laurent Lucien Gsell (1860-1944) was a student of Caspar Gsell (1814-1904), his father, and then of Alexandre Cabanel (1823-1889) at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. From 1882 to 1908, he exhibited at the Salon of the Society of French Artists and from 1909 to 1920 at the Salon of the National Society, portraits, genre paintings and scenes from the life of the people, subjects from Sudan and the Azores. The Museum of Vannes (Morbihan) has an unusual canvas in his work "Pasteur's Laboratory" (1886). Sources: Bénézit dictionary of painters and sculptors.
