Neoclassical School, "rural Confidences"
Neoclassical school. Unsigned oil on canvas, "Confidences Champêtres." 32 x 46 cm. French school.
Painted in the first half of the 19th century, our painting comes from an estate that included a watercolor of Princess Mathilde (1820–1904).
A student of Eugène Pierre François Giraud (1806–1881), an artist renowned for his 18th-century-inspired genre scenes, the princess herself may have painted this work during her youth.
Late 19th-century wooden frame with gilded stucco (some minor damage). Two small areas of missing paint on the canvas: one in the middle of the large tree on the right and one near the grove on the left. Overall in good condition.
2,800 euros.
