The composition is captivating.
The composition seduces with its fresh atmosphere, delicate expressions and elegant treatment of the figures. The landscape, bathed in soft light, serves as a backdrop for this tender family scene.
The artist was born in Morbigny, France.
Born in Morbier in 1817, Germain Paget received his first artistic training in Dole before continuing his studies in Paris with Adolphe Brune, Jean Gigoux and Thomas Couture. A regular exhibitor at the Paris Salon from 1841 onwards, he developed a sensitive body of work in which portraits and genre scenes featured prominently.
Under the Second Empire, the infatuation with XVIIIᵉ century aesthetics inspired the artist to create numerous compositions full of freshness and poetry. Childhood scenes and evocations of family life are among the most popular subjects of his work.
Preserved in several public collections, notably in Dole and Morez, Germain Paget's works are sought after today for their quality of execution and historical interest.
