Artist: Germain Paget (1817-1884)

Germain Paget (1817-1884) - Interior scene of Auguste and Léon Paget with Armand Morel

Very interesting interior scene by Germain Paget (1817-1884), depicting several members of his family entourage.

The composition features, from left to right, Auguste Paget, Léon Paget and, in the center, Armand Morel. This precise identification lends the work a particularly valuable historical and documentary dimension.

In a carefully crafted interior, Paget's work is the result of a careful process of identification.

In a carefully described interior, the artist demonstrates his mastery of portraiture and family staging. The characters are portrayed with naturalness and sensitivity, while the details of the furniture and décor contribute to the warm, intimate atmosphere of the composition.

The artist's mastery of portraiture and family settings is evident in this carefully depicted interior.

Born in Morbier in 1817, Germain Paget received his first artistic training in Dole before continuing his studies in Paris with Adolphe Brune, Jean Gigoux and Thomas Couture. A regular exhibitor at the Paris Salon from 1841 onwards, he distinguished himself as much for his portraits as for his genre scenes.

While the artist is particularly appreciated today for his compositions inspired by family and rural life, this interior scene is a rare record of his close circle. Beyond its pictorial qualities, the work is of genuine genealogical and historical interest, immortalizing several identified members of the Paget and Morel family.

Germain Paget's works are today held in several public collections, notably in Dole and Morez.

This canvas will appeal both to lovers of French painting of the XIXᵉ century and to collectors sensitive to family portraits and intimate scenes.
