Pair Of Italian Sconce Brackets In Carved And Gilded Wood With Putti - Early XIXᵉ Century
Very attractive pair of small Italian wall sconce consoles in carved and gilded wood with gold foil dating from the first part of the XIXᵉ century.
These particularly decorative symmetrical brackets feature a delicate openwork design of stylized putti. Each cherub supports a carved leaf forming a stand or small shelf, creating an elegant, airy composition.
The workmanship of the carvings is particularly refined.
The finely executed sculptural work highlights volumes and movement , in a spirit inspired by Italian Baroque taste. Gilding lends warmth and refinement to the whole.
Called "consoles d'applique", these pieces were intended to be placed against woodwork, a trumeau, between two windows or on either side of a door, in order to harmoniously punctuate interior decor.
These consoles are part of a mastered production of Italian decorative ornamentation, sought after for their elegance and finesse of execution.
