Green Family Porcelain Teapot And Milk Jug - Kangxi Period (1662-1722)
Green Family Chinese porcelain teapot and milk jug - Kangxi period (1662-1722)
Rare set consisting of a teapot and its milk jug in Chinese porcelain, decorated in the so-called "Green Family" style, dating from the period of the Kangxi reign (1662-1722).
These pieces feature rich, refined polychrome decoration blending scenes of daily life, figures, birds and flowers, accompanied by furniture, Buddhist emblems and precious objects. The ensemble illustrates the Chinese taste for an elegant and balanced visual narrative.
The Green Family porcelains are characterized by the dominance of green glazes, obtained from copper oxide, declined in subtle shades. These tones are enhanced by touches of yellow, blue, violet, red and sometimes matte gold, creating a harmonious, luminous contrast.
The decoration is applied "sur couvert": after an initial high-temperature firing, the glazes are laid down and then fixed during a second, lower-temperature firing, a technique that preserves the richness of the colors, particularly the delicate greens.
Developed during the reign of the Kangxi emperor, these porcelains enjoyed great success both in China and for export to Europe, seducing with their mastery of composition, lively lines and balanced decorations.
A refined and decorative set, emblematic of the expertise of early XVIIIᵉ century Chinese workshops.
