Compagnie Des Indes Porcelain Plate - Yongzheng Period (1723-1735)
Compagnie des Indes porcelain plate - Yongzheng period (1723-1735), decoration of Buddhist objects
Chinese porcelain plate from the Compagnie des Indes, dating from the Yongzheng reign period (1723-1735).
This piece features a refined decoration executed in a broad palette of glazes, dominated by iron-red tones, characteristic of the high-quality productions of the early XVIIIᵉ century.
In the center, a rich array of Buddhist and scholarly attributes is depicted: baluster vase, scrolls, incense burner, as well as a bitong containing brushes and ruyi scepter. These elements, highly symbolic, evoke spirituality, knowledge and the status of the scholar in Chinese society.
The porcelains of the Compagnie des Indes bear witness to the intensity of trade between China and Europe in the XVIIIᵉ century, and to the Western infatuation with Asian objets d'art.
The reign of Emperor Yongzheng marked a period of consolidation of imperial power and high artistic standards, giving rise to works of remarkable quality.
A collector's item, combining decorative finesse and symbolic richness.
