Founded in
Founded in 1841 by Eugène Boch and Victor Boch, the Boch Frères Keramis factory quickly established itself as a major center of European earthenware. Based in La Louvière, it combined technical innovation, artistic excellence and international renown. Awarded prizes as early as 1847 at the Exposition des produits de l'industrie belge, it also took part in the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1855.
.Stemming from a family tradition of earthenware makers dating back to the 18th century, the name "Keramis" pays homage to the potters of ancient Greece and is part of a desire to inscribe the factory in a prestigious history of ceramics.
Arrived in 1906, Charles Catteau quickly became a key figure in the manufacture. Head of the decoration department, which he transformed into the "Atelier de Fantaisie" in 1920, he instilled an innovative and prolific style, becoming one of the great exponents of Art Deco in ceramics. He remained there until 1954, leaving a lasting mark on the artistic identity of the house.
