Artist: Jean-baptiste Desvignes
White Opaline Decanter – Floral Gold Decoration – Restoration Period Circa 1820 White Opaline Decanter with Floral Gold Decoration – Early 19th Century Milky white opaline decanter from the Restoration period, circa 1820, retaining its original ball stopper. The body is adorned with a delicate floral wreath composed of anemones and forget-me-nots finely painted in gold and dark blue. This decoration is framed by gold lines that also highlight the neck and stopper. This type of decoration can be compared to the work of the workshop of Jean-Baptiste Desvignes, a Parisian decorator active between 1817 and 1826. A painter and gilder on porcelain and crystal, he filed a patent in 1817 for a gilding and painting process on crystal without firing or inlay. His creations are distinguished in particular by the harmonious repetition of floral motifs. A beautiful decorative piece representative of opaline glass production during the Restoration period. Minor wear to the gilding. Dimensions: Height: 24.5 cm Width: 11 cm Period: early 19th century, circa 1820.
