Daum Nancy - Art Nouveau Multi-layered Glass Bowl With Enamelled Violets, Circa 1910
Daum Nancy - Art nouveau multi-layered glass bowl, enameled violet decoration, circa 1910
Pretty Art Nouveau multi-layered glass bowl, signed Daum Nancy, made circa 1910-1914.
This delicate piece, of poly-lobed form, features a finely acid-etched decoration enhanced with enamels depicting violets. The motif, particularly popular with collectors, unfolds on a deep blue shaded background, highlighting the violet-toned flowers, often highlighted with green
.Because of the finesse and small size of this floral decoration, the Daum manufacture generally reserved this motif for modest-sized pieces, intended for controlled production, combining artistic quality and wider distribution.
Made of multi-layered glass, the bowl has been worked using the acid etching technique, revealing the different levels of color, then enriched with a highly precise hot-glazed decoration.
It bears a beautiful intaglio signature on the wheel "Daum Nancy" accompanied by the Cross of Lorraine, the house's emblematic mark.
Founded in Nancy at the end of the XIXᵉ century, the Daum Nancy factory quickly established itself as one of the major players in Art Nouveau, notably alongside Émile Gallé within the École de Nancy. Awarded prizes at the 1900 Exposition Universelle, it developed a decorative language inspired by nature, characterized by great finesse of execution.
This bowl can also be considered a study piece, testifying to the manufacture's decorative research around the floral motif, while at the same time being a genuine showcase object, ideal for display and collection.
