Robert Bros (1902-1968) – Woman With Balloon – Art Deco Terracotta, Circa 1930
Artist: Robert Bros (1902–1968)
Robert Bros (1902-1968) – Woman with a Ball – Art Deco Terracotta, Circa 1930. This charming terracotta sculpture depicts a young, nude woman playing with a ball. Created around 1930 by the French sculptor Robert Bros, this composition, full of freshness and movement, perfectly illustrates the aesthetics of the 1930s, characterized by clean lines and a search for balance between naturalism and modernity. The supple and graceful posture of the female figure conveys a great sensitivity in the treatment of the body and movement. Born in Paris, Robert Bros trained at the Bernard-Palissy School of Industrial Arts, where the sculptor Robert Wlérick also taught. The school also trained several important figures in modern sculpture, including Henri Laurens. Very active on the Parisian art scene in the late 1920s and 1930s, Robert Bros exhibited notably at the Salon des Tuileries, the Salon des Indépendants, and the Société des Artistes Français. In 1936, he moved to New York, settling at 58 West 57th Street, and the following year held a solo exhibition at the Paul Reinhardt Gallery, followed by numerous exhibitions in the United States. This work testifies to the sculptor's sensitive and elegant output in the 1930s. Signed: Bros. Material: terracotta. Period: circa 1930. Dimensions: Width: 24 cm, Height: 18 cm, Depth: 9 cm.
