Pair Of Asparagus Plates Quimper - Porquier-beau, Polychrome Earthenware 19th Century
Pair of Quimper asparagus plates - Porquier-Beau, polychrome earthenware with children scenes, XIXᵉ century
Charming pair of Quimper polychrome earthenware asparagus plates from the Porquier-Beau manufacture, dating from the second half of the XIXᵉ century.
These two rimmed plates each feature a delicate, poetic genre scene, illustrating the world of childhood with great sensitivity.
First plate: depicts three young children - two boys and a girl - playing with a cart, in a lively, animated scene evoking everyday games.
Second plate: depicts two children holding hands, heading towards a house, in a softer, more intimate composition, imbued with tenderness.
The wings are decorated with foliate scrolls in blue, enhanced by floral motifs, typical of Quimper productions of this period.
The reverse of each piece bears the initials P.B., the signature of the Porquier-Beau manufacture.
The artistic revival of this manufacture, notably through collaboration with the painter Alfred Beau from the 1870s onwards, is reflected here in refined narrative scenes, great finesse of execution and an assertive decorative sense.
This coherent, complementary pair seduces with its charm, freshness and sensitive evocation of everyday life.
A quality decorative set, sought after by Quimper faience enthusiasts.
