Bust Of A Young Woman By Affortunato Gory (1895-1925)
Artist: Affortunato Gory (1895-1925)
Affortunato Gory (1895-1925) Bust of a Young Woman White marble and gilt bronze Signed "A. Gory / Paris" An elegant bust in white marble and gilt bronze depicting a young woman wearing a bonnet. The finely sculpted marble face contrasts with the richly gilt bronze bodice, adorned with ruffles and delicate embroidered decoration. The work rests on a quadrangular, dark green marble base, reinforcing its decorative and precious character. Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence under Augusto Rivalta, Gory settled in Paris at the turn of the 20th century and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1902 to 1923. He is particularly sought after for his chryselephantine sculptures combining marble, gilt bronze, alabaster, or ivory, characteristic of the Art Nouveau and then nascent Art Deco style. This bust perfectly illustrates this refined aesthetic: soft modeling, contrasting materials, and idealized feminine elegance. Very good condition. Signed piece — decorative and collectible work.
