"Honoré Boze (ile-maurice 1830 – Marseille 1909) Oil On Panel Provencal Woman Landscape Of Provence"
Superbly highlighted by its gilt wood frame finely carved with shells in the corners and falling floral motifs on a honeycomb background, this charming oil on panel gives us an unusual subject, a woman from behind facing the immensity of this landscape of Provence, the gaze seeming to be directed towards the sketch of a small village in the distance. A touch of high quality, very smooth and a rich palette of colors that accurately describes the traditional costume of Provençal women in the 19th century. Signed lower left "H Boze" for Honoré Boze, grand-nephew of the painter Joseph Boze. The painting, of great pictorial quality which was made on a thick mahogany panel of about 5 mm, is in very good condition. Its gilded wooden frame has been restored by a professional. Dimensions: At sight: 18 cm x 14 cm at sight With its frame: 32 cm x 26.5 cm and 4.5 cm thick The author belongs to a group of Provençal artists in love with nature such as Joseph Cabasson, Paul Guigou or François Simon...who brilliantly research and trace the serenity and majesty of Provençal landscapes. In their paintings, they compose realistic, naturalistic atmospheres imbued with a certain romanticism. Honoré Boze appears in the Bénézit as well as in the Alauzen Dictionary, directory of Provençal painters. The Museum of Fine Arts in Marseille holds several works by the artist.
