Léon Louis Oury (1846-1929) The Milkmaid, oil on panel, signed lower right, 33x44cm unframed. Léon Louis Oury, born on December 6, 1846 in Chartres where he died on June 6, 1929, was a French painter. Léon Louis Oury was the son of Hyppolite Oury (1811-1893), chief secretary at the Chartres town hall, and Marie Elisabeth Rosalie Eustache (1822-1895). His maternal grandfather was the painter Honoré Jean Dubois-Duperray, and his niece Thérèse Marie Oury-Picavet (1880-1972) was also a painter. In 1878, he married Joséphine Sophie Edian; Ladislas Ciesielski was a witness at the wedding. A student of Isidore Pils and Gabriel Ferrier, he exhibited at the Salon from 1880. He died at the age of 82 in Chartres.
