Scottish Officer's Ribbon Hilt Basket Sword
A magnificent example of a late 17th-century Scottish officer’s sword, of the “beak and basket-hilt” type. The tapered blade with double fuller bears the inscription “ANDREA FERARAA” engraved in both fullers. Length: approximately 79 cm. The ribbon-style guard consists of circular panels and curved flat bars, ending in a separate piece at the apple-shaped pommel. The guard is lined with red Melton cloth and fine buff-colored leather. The wooden handle is covered in shagreen and wrapped in twisted wire. Total length: approximately 93 cm.
