An Imperial Russian, Crimean War period pickelhaube helmet (Kiver) of the 26th Smolensk Infantry Regiment. Retains the brass flaming grenade spike and base, along with the helmet plate depicting a Russian double-headed eagle beneath a crown, a shield bearing the regimental number 26. Black leather skull with front and rear leather peaks, secured to the wearer with segmented brass chin-scales. Interior retains it leather sweatband. Showing light service wear, but overall in very nice condition.

Note –

The 26th Smolensk Infantry Regiment were engaged on the Sevastopol defences, serving in the central sector opposite the British approaches to the Great Redan and took part in hard-fought actions and final bombardments of June and September 1855. These helmets are recorded as being gathered by Allied soldiers from the abandoned Russian works after the evacuation of the south side on the 8th-9th September 1855 and is a classic Sevastopol trophy.
