"royal Regiment Of Lancers Guard" Sword From The Restoration Period
Officer’s sword of the Royal Guard Lancers Regiment (Restoration period). Polished steel hilt with a three-pronged guard in the light cavalry style, featuring oval lugs on either side and a downward-curving quillon. Domed pommel and original tang sheathed in black leather. Blade with two fuller grooves and a pointed counter-edge (in the “lance point” style), approximately 84 cm long. The blade bears the inscriptions “GARDE ROYALE” on one side and “REGT DE LANCIERS” on the other, accompanied by the royal cipher of King Louis XV and a fleur-de-lis; it should be noted that all royal symbols have been hammered out (erased) by the owner. Gilded maker’s mark “Manufre Royale du Klingenthal Coulaux Frères” on one side, near the pommel, and “Duc, swordsmith, Rue St. Honoré, opposite Rue de Richelieu, No. 251, Paris” on the other. Original polished steel scabbard. A very fine example of a rare sword.
