FIRST EMPIRE - RESTORATION SENIOR OFFICER'S SWORD. Brass hilt, guard branch decorated with a scallop shell at its base or a lion's head at the base of the pommel, checkered wooden grip with a diamond pattern, quillon depicting a Gorgon's head of Medusa, symbol of military strength, wrath, and apotropaic power. Double-edged blade with a gray patina and traces of oxidation. In used condition, see photos. Length 92 cm, blade 78.5 cm.
