Scottish Sword With A Basket-hilt, 1798 Model
Georgian period, Scottish infantry officer’s sword, Model 1798. Of a classic regulation type, it features a gilded brass basket hilt topped with a domed pommel; the handle, covered in shagreen and filigree-decorated, shows some areas of damage and missing sections. The double-edged blade, featuring a central fuller, is covered in a dark patina and bears traces of re-sharpening. The set comes with a steel scabbard, which has significant pitting and is missing both suspension rings. A rare and sought-after piece.
