Hussar Trooper's Sabre; Model Year Ix. Very Rare Model. First Empire.
Artist: Consulat / Premier Empire.
Brass hilt, oval pommel with an olive-shaped rivet button and extended by a long tail. Main guard branch stamped with an "M" surmounted by a toothed wheel of JJ Mouton, civil inspector from November 1793 to March 1798; the other stamp is illegible. The grip is wrapped with string, covered in glued sheepskin reinforced by a brass half-olive nail. The secondary branches join the knuckle bow at the upper third of its length. Quillons are made of rods with rounded ends. Ball quillon. Hollow-ground blade, 87.9 cm long; 36 mm wide at the ricasso with a 5 cm radius. The back of the blade is signed "Manufacture Nationale du Klingenthal Coulaux Frères Entreprise" and stamped with an "M" surmounted by a toothed wheel, one mark being JJ, the other illegible. The scabbard is missing its wooden lining and is made of 0.95 mm thick sheet metal. It has a fixed brass cup and flat bands with suspension rings. The chape is asymmetrical. This is a very rare model. It is in fairly good condition. The weapon is 104 cm long. It was purchased from a home in the Tarn region of France. First Empire period.
