Dagger With Ivory Handle, France, Departments, 1809-1819
Iron dagger characterized by a beautiful ivory handle carved in the shape of a lion's head, decorated with a silver insert without engraving, probably intended to be personalized by the owner.
A small sleeve, also in silver, connects the handle to the iron blade, which is marked with a hallmark with a crowned "S" and an engraved signature that is difficult to read (see photos). Bears the small guarantee hallmark used in the French departments between 1809 and 1819 (fasceau), as well as another divisional hallmark, probably that of the northeast (turtle).
Very good condition, except for a slight crack in the ivory indicated in the photo.
The object is accompanied by its CITES certificate for the marketing of ivory objects within the European Union.
