These are compositions of great iconographic vivacity and subtle irony, probably produced in the Neoclassical period to satisfy the erudite and provocative taste of the travelers on the Grand Tour.
They represent respectively:
– An isolated phallus, in dark blue-violet glass, with stylized and clear forms;
– A complex scene with a cupid operating a phallic wheel to the pleasure of two young women, against a drapery background, in amber glass with brown shades;
– A couple in embrace, probably Hercules and a nymph, in transparent red-orange glass;
– An amorous scene between a reclining young couple, in orange-brown glass.
Rare and intriguing objects, ideal for mounting as small gold jewelry.
Production of the Grand Tour period, 18th–19th century
