Sword of a Dragoon Officer, mounted hunter, or possibly a naval officer, from the Consulate and First Empire period.
Cast brass hilt
Pommel with faceted sides decorated with a foliage motif and topped by a prominent riveted knob.
Fluted ebony tang, decorated in the middle with a brass ring featuring continuous plant motifs.
Faceted tang, adorned in the center with pearls and ending at a right angle at the crossguard with a reinforcement.
Guard plate decorated with a sun on a radiating background and a border adorned with 5 pearls; short, coiled quillon.
Blade with a gray patina, straight with hollow sides and a flat back, chiseled one-third of the way up with trophies of arms and floral motifs on one side and a radiant sun on the other.
These swords were very fashionable among dragoon officers, mounted chasseurs, and naval officers.
