Sword of Honor of the Heavy Cavalry awarded to Marshal's Corporal

BOUTTET, of the 2nd Carabiniers Regiment.

Silver palmette-shaped guard hallmarked with the 1* rooster (1798–1809), an old man’s head 88, and the hallmark of silversmith Jean Masson. Curved blade marked “Manufacture de Klingenthal Couleaux frères Entreprise,” hallmarked with the “M” of Mouton and the “L” of Levavasseur; scabbard with two silver fittings, bearing the inscription: “Le Jer Consul au Cen Bouttet, Chief Marshal of the 2nd Carabiniers Regiment.”

Height: 1 m 71 – chestnut hair and eyebrows – red eyes – large nose – medium-sized mouth – round chin – oval face marked by smallpox scars.

Knight of the Legion of Honor on September 24, 1803.

Honorary Sword Certificate in the rank of Chief Marshal of the Quartermaster in the 2nd Carabiniers Regiment, dated 10 Prairial, Year 11.

Citation:

“ He demonstrated the utmost bravery during the crossing of the Lahn on the 19th of Messidor, Year 4, when, despite two serious wounds to his thigh and arm, he refused to surrender and, through his valor, facilitated the retreat of his detachment. - His wounds, the aftereffects of which have left him with troublesome ailments, prevented him from accepting the officer’s rank offered to him by the Commanding Officer; he fulfills the duties of his rank with all the attention to detail and integrity required for this position - He is one of the most distinguished members of the Regiment.”

Service Record:

Entered service, enlisted for one year - Carabiniere in the 2nd Regiment on May 31, 1793 - Rejoined the Corps on the 24th of Pluviose, Year 5 - Promoted to Brigadier on the 14th of Frimaire, Year 7 - Promoted to Brigadier Quartermaster on the 16th of the same month - Promoted to Chief Marshal of the Quarters on the 11th of Brumaire, Year 8 - Discharged on the 13th of Fructidor, Year 11, having obtained from the Government a position as special tax collector in the department of the Scheldt.

He served in 9 campaigns with the Regiment.
