Huge Navaja 121cm, Santa Cruz De Mudela, Early 19th

This navaja is Spanish, it comes from Santa Cruz de Mudela, and dates from the beginning of the 19th century. It comes from an old collection and according to family tradition it would have been brought back during the Spanish campaign under the Empire. This  is an interesting element, but to be taken with caution, like all family traditions.
What is special about this knife are its dimensions = 121 cm open! We are well above the usual proportions... The clasp knife on the picture gives an idea of dimension.
BLADE: It is a long blade, in its original length, which is quite rare. One side is quite richly engraved with floral motifs that time has worn a little. 3 fine grooves on the same side. The other side is engraved more soberly with a small motif that is difficult to interpret.
This blade comes to lock in the open position when opening by a succession of 10 notches which are very clear. Such a number of notches is a rarity on these models which usually only have 5 notches.
When in the open position, the blade is perfectly held in place by the spring, without any loose, which is quite rare.
Blade length = 58 cm, thickness 2.7mm
HANDLE it is made of wood covered with a sheet of brass which is decorated with geometric patterns. the end of the handle has the small brass "barrel" typical of the weapons of Santa Cruz de Mudela.

Beautiful navajas are rare, this one is quite exceptional by its dimensions and its good condition given its age. It will be one of the highlights of a collection of knives
