Big Size Indonesian Saber Known As "klewang" 19th Century
This weapon is an Indonsian sword called "Klewang" . It is typical from the Sumatra Island. It was collectedduring the19th century in the North of the Sumatra Island.
Blade is a nice smith's work, in multi sheets steel, with a selective temper line. Onesingle cutting edge near the hilt, and false edge on the last third part near the tip.
Blade lenght = 68 cm
Hilt is made from a single piece of buffalo horn. It seems like the back side of the grip features the stylised head perfile of a Batak king.
The Batak people live in the north of Sumatra, near Toba lake, and althought theorically muslims, they conserved a lot of animist believes and traditions.
