Brass hilt.

A makeshift blade (probably from a cavalry saber) refitted during the period, shortened, and with the point re-cut. 

Curved, single-edged blade with a rounded spine, marked “J. Spol Md Fourbisseur à Metz.”

Jacques Spol was a sword merchant in Metz in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. 

Sturdy, no play.
