English Civil War Period Mortuary Sword

A superb English Civil War period “Mortuary” sword. Broad double-edged blade that shows the maker’s mark ‘Andrea Ferrara’ running along the central fuller, as well as armory stamp to either side of the forte. Iron hilt comprising eight bar, heavily chiselled and pierced design, showing figure heads to the guard. Intricate, twisted grip that is bound with steel wire, terminating with ‘turks’ knots. Blade length is approximately 86cm long, overall length 103cm. In good condition showing the same lightly pitted patina throughout. Circa 1630
