Rare, Large Hispano-moorish Dagger, 15th Century

This type of dagger, of unquestionable authenticity, is extremely rare, and very few examples have survived to the present day. It is a large Hispano-Moorish-style dagger. It dates from the 15th century, specifically from the late Moorish Kingdom of Granada in southern Spain.
This dagger model features the same type of guard a sHispano-Moorish swords, such as the one known as the Boabdil “el chico” 's sword. These swords were worn in the 14th and 15th centuries. This type of dagger is even rarer than the so-called “eared dagger ” or“estradiot dagger ” models dating from the same period. The weapon is of course heavily oxidized, but remains solid and shows no signs of repair.
BLADE:  After a 3 cm ricasso, which features on one side a slightly concave section to provide better support for the thumb, it takes on a rhombus-shaped cross-section that appears to have originally bee na “seagull’s wing” profile—that is, with sides that are slightly concave- Heavy, stabilized oxidation but no large parts missing 
Blade length = 29 cm, width at the ricasso = 2.9cm, thickness at the ricasso = 5.5 mm
GUARD: a wide central escutcheon from which emerge two cylindrical quillons sloping sharply toward the blade. These quillons terminate in pointed spinning-top shapes
POMMEL : It is made of iron and also features a pointed spinning top shape. The blade tang is riveted to the end of this pommel.
GRIP  : It is shaped like a diamond-shaped spoolwith with a central ring. Made of wood covered in leather.The leather is very hard and dry; it is certainly old. It might be the original leather, but this cannot be confirmed

Ancient Hispano-Moorish daggers are extremely rare, and simple models like this one are even rarer since they generally have not survived the centuries. We should therefore be willing to overlook this dagger’s general oxidation.
