Curiosity: Dagger Of Virtue, 19th Century, Female Dagger Known As A "ball-picker" (ref1151)
Collector's item and curiosity:
Small 19th-century virtue dagger: a dagger that women carried in their handbags or under their petticoats for defense against overly amorous men. It is also known colloquially as a "ball-picker," as it was frequently used by prostitutes for self-defense in case of attack.
This particular dated 19th-century example is sold as found, in good condition, and of high quality. The handle is carved in a twisted pattern (I believe it to be blackened ebony). The blade is steel and needs cleaning. No sheath (see photos).
