Object description :

"Rare Venetian Sword (1460-1490)"
Rare Venetian Sword 1460 -1490

This sword, referred to as “spada schiavonesche” was used by the bodyguards of the Doge of Venice and many examples still can be seen in the Ducal Palace collection in Venice.

This sword likely belonged to a high ranking member of the Guard and is a true fighting sword with shuttle details and embellishing of the hilt.

The hilt is comprised of a set of S shaped quillons, the pommel is large and the perfect counter weight to give it its flexibility. The condition of the grip is excellent, this appears to be the antique and has been well preserved.
The blade is a stocky 4.1 cm wide with double edge, four fullers run down each side of the blade.

The overall condition is excellent on this piece.
The sword is extremely balanced.

Museum quality example.
